I have seen both of these plays performed at different times, and both are excellent at revealing crucial secrets at perfect times, keeping the audience waiting for the next line of dialogue. These two short plays are similar in that they are simply staged, and reading them is almost like reading an exciting scene in a Janet Evanovich novel... but believable!
***NO SPOILERS***
"The Third Date" is actually kind of bizarre in that it plays with the idea that people are supposed to have sex on the Third date, but as the Hero of the play is setting up his date, his long-dead father comes to have a chat.
Huh?
Exactly- and that's why you'll keep reading it. And if you're like me, why you'll want to keep watching the show.
It's actually a very funny scene, but as I watched (and read), I was very curious as to how it was all going to turn out, and why his father came at that particular moment.
In "Lying Naked", which is an excellent title (You'll have to read it to know why!), the two characters have a very uncomfortable conversation right after they have just had sex. One of them is married, but what else is going on? A surprisingly sexy, emotional scene for mature audiences.
Whether you just want to read some great dialogue, or want to stage a very simple yet engaging show, I can tell you that these two plays will do the job!
